The laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) has detected the presence of the bird flu virus in Hajdú-Bihar County. The affected flock is being eliminated and an epidemiological investigation is underway. Nébih draws attention to the fact that the disease may appear or reappear in areas not currently affected by bird flu, so please pay close attention to your flock.

Avian influenza was suspected due to increased mortality at a 700-head goose farm in the Komádi settlement of Hajdú-Bihar County. The Nébih laboratory detected the H5N1 subtype of the virus in the dead animals.

The affected herd is being depopulated and an epidemiological investigation is underway. A 3 km radius protection zone has been designated around the farm, and a 10 km radius surveillance zone has been established.

Nébih draws the attention of animal keepers that avian influenza may appear or reappear in areas that are not currently affected by the disease. Epidemiological discipline must not be relaxed anywhere, as the risk of avian influenza entering poultry farms can only be minimized by strict and consistent adherence to biosecurity measures.
