Brazil and China are expected to sign at least four health protocols to enable the export of new Brazilian products to the Asian country. The agreements will be signed tomorrow (11/20), in an agenda between presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Xi Jinping, in Brasília.
The signatures will be for opening China's market for sorghum , fresh grapes, sesame and fishmeal, a byproduct used to make animal feed. Other protocols are under discussion, but are not expected to be signed tomorrow, such as for the export of pork and beef offal , the report found.
The definition of technical details for exporting pork offal is at a more advanced stage and there is still a possibility that the process could be finalized during Xi Jinping's visit, said a source familiar with the negotiations. The remaining negotiations are expected to be concluded soon.
On Wednesday, Agriculture Minister Carlos Fávaro will attend a dinner in honor of the Chinese president at the Itamaraty Palace in Brasília. He will be able to bring up to 15 guests. The list should be filled with Brazilian agribusiness entrepreneurs and executives from entities in sectors that export products to China, such as meat and cotton
Despite always generating expectations in the sector, China will not announce the authorization of new meatpacking plants in Brazil to export meat to the country, the source said. This move is expected to take place in the first quarter of 2025.
So far this year, 39 establishments have been authorized to ship beef, pork and poultry to China. Last year, four other establishments had received approval from Beijing and almost all companies whose sales were embargoed were authorized to resume sales. Only BRF in Rio Verde has had its access to China blocked since 2018.
