RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov 18 (Reuters) - Brazil and China will formalize agreements on Wednesday to boost Brazilian exports of products such as beef and pork offal, as well as fruit, Brazilian Agriculture Minister Carlos Favaro told reporters on Monday.
He revealed that announcements with China will be made after a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Brasilia.
The minister highlighted that China is already one of the main markets for Brazilian meat, especially beef cuts. But now Brazil must gain access to the offal segment.
"The protocols that are already ready (to be announced) are beef and pork offal. Brazil does not yet export offal to China, but the health protocols are already ready," he told journalists.
He added that the Brazilian government has a "new list" of meatpacking plants authorized to export to China, but this could be left for later.
"We have already broken all the records for cold storage plants. The new list will be announced, but it may not be on Wednesday."
In fruit, Fávaro sees high potential for selling value-added products.
"The fruit agreement with China will come to fruition and pay the bill, you see! It's very good. We sold some fruit to the Chinese and now we're going to sell more," he said, adding that a kilo of grapes on the Chinese market is worth much more than in Brazil.
