According to the latest data published by FranceAgriMerAu, French exports of fresh, chilled, and frozen pork fell by 1% in volume during the first six months of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, representing a decrease of approximately 2,000 tonnes.

Shipments to other European Union countries declined by 3%, particularly to Spain (-10%), while they increased to Germany (+4%) and remained stable to Italy, France's main export market.

Exports to third countries increased slightly by 2%. However, this growth masks a 24% drop in shipments to China, amid a contraction in Chinese domestic demand and anti-dumping duties on European pork. Conversely, French exports to Japan increased, as the Japanese market closed its doors to Spanish products slaughtered and processed before October 2025 due to the outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in Spain.

French pork imports also declined by 1% in volume. Supplies from the European Union, mainly from Spain, decreased by 1%, while imports from outside the EU, primarily from the United Kingdom, increased by 21%.

France's trade balance remains positive in volume, at +54,000 tonnes. However, in value, it deteriorates sharply, reaching +3 million euros in the first half of 2026, compared to +24 million euros a year earlier.
